Marriage is one of the main milestones in a person’s life. It is as much a union of families as it is a union of two individuals. With time, a marriage can create its own family when offspring are born to the uniting individuals.

A marriage is a bond for a lifetime in most cultures. But in these modern times with individual freedom gaining the main stage in societal lifestyle, more and more people are opting out of bad marriages.

This is true from a global perspective. The process of getting out of a marriage is not simple and involves long legal battles and settlements. Divorce is the term used for two people ending a marriage and going two separate ways. To save yourself the hassles of the legal system, it is best to consult family lawyers Litvack Dessureault LLP, who can help you in divorce and other related procedures.

The most common types of divorces are mutual and dispute. In a mutual divorce, both the parties involved will be in total agreement about the terms and conditions of the divorce. It is an easy and quick process. But in a disputed divorce, it is not only difficult to obtain a separation but might take a long time as well. Disputed divorces will have one of the parties in non-alignment with the proceedings of divorce.

In a mutual divorce, the two parties involved will find a suitable lawyer to represent their case in court. In some cases, even out-of-court settlements will work, wherein a settlement regarding the post-divorce arrangements will be made with deliberation and then the judge accepts the divorce petition.

This is also called easy divorce, as the process and procedures involved are not very hectic. Another reason to call it easy is because of the time involved in the whole process, a mutual divorce can be obtained within months of its filing.

In a disputed divorce, the parties involved are not in agreement with some or all of the agreements of the divorce petition. In this case, both parties will have separate lawyers to represent their case. It is most likely that this type of case will have to move the court for a settlement. There have been instances where disputed divorce petitions have dragged on for years for a just decision from the court.

To conclude, it is best to come to an agreement on the post-divorce arrangement before filing a divorce petition to save time and money.
